Overview
A precancerous condition caused by long-term acid exposure, where the esophageal lining transforms into intestinal-type tissue.

Risk Factors
• Chronic GERD
• Male gender
• Age 50+
• Obesity
• Smoking

Symptoms
Often none beyond GERD symptoms.

Diagnosis
• Endoscopy with biopsy

Treatment
• PPIs
• Lifestyle changes
• Radiofrequency ablation (for dysplasia)
• Surveillance endoscopy every 3–5 years

Self-Management
Tracking reflux severity and frequency helps monitor progression.
